Types of hardware: functional and decorative

1. I-Beam
An I-Beam is exactly what it sounds like. It is a rod in the shape of the letter "I" that acts as a track for rolling glides. Your drapery treatment is hooked onto these glides and moves smoothly across it for fully functioning drapery. The benefit of I-beam is that it glides easily and smoothly. It can also be bent to turn corners in a bay window, making it extremely dynamic and flexible for unique spaces. But, I-beam is not a pretty piece of hardware. It is used most often under a valance (either plaster valance or fabric valance) or in a more industrial space where this minimalist look is more suited. I-beam definitely has its place still, but it is not used as often as the decorative hardware, now that there are a plethora of other options.

2. KS Track
KS Tracks are used as purely functional hardware, similar to the I-beam. KS Tracks are most commonly used for ripplefold treatments, where snap tape on the drapery panel is clicked into the glide on the track. But it can also be used for standard heading with hooks that are placed into glides, like I-beam. The difference is that KS is a bit better looking. KS comes in a silver finish and a white finish and also can be bent to adapt to unique windows.

3. Decorative Rod/Rings/Finials
Decorative hardware is definitely the most popular. With decorative hardware, there are a variety of finished, ring choices, finials and brackets. This is a much more custom option and can really help express your style in conjunction with the drapery treatment. Some companies have even introduced rings with a silicone interior that helps them to glide along the rod much more easily.

4. Decorative Channel Track - KS Track
Mechanical option is becoming one of the most popular pieces of hardware. It is called Tekno 25 and it is from Claire Deco. This decorative rod functions in the same way as a KS track, but is much more attractive. The mechanical hardware can be ceiling mounted or wall mounted, which makes it the perfect hardware for loft spaces with bulkheads.
